January 2010 Peter Bruce Tele: 03 5752 2114 PO Box 328 Mobile: 0419 349 317 Myrtleford Vic 3736 Email: pjbruce8@bigpond.net.au Hi everyone and all the very best in health and happiness to you all for 2010. Main item of interest is the celebrations in Townsville in April/May. Gabby Hayes is still doing the books and as at the start of the year our bank balance was $7816.56. Gabby can be contacted at gabbyhayes@ozemail.com.au or telephone 073888 9665 or mail (with subs if appropriate) to 36 Ravel Street, Burpengary Qld, 4505. Next time any more than half a dozen of us get together we might have a talk about the future direction of our old boys assoc and what we can do for both our members and the current serving members of 4 th Field Regt. 50 th Birthday of 4 th Field Regiment. A big year for 4 th Field Regiment this year in Townsville. 107 Bty are organising their reunion around the Regiments celebrations, 108 Bty look like getting a fair crowd up there too. Have not heard anything about 106 Bty but it looks like the Battery will be back on the Orbat with the new look Artillery units. The main events are: Sunday 25 th April – ANZAC Day. Dawn Service Gunfire Breakfast Past & Present members march on the Strand Regimental Drinks Friday 30 th April – Regimental Open Day. Bty and Regt barracks opening Displays Gun Race Old Boys Rugby Match Saturday 1 st May – Parade to receive the Keys to Townsville Memorial Dedication Service Museum Opening Regimental Ball Point of contact for all Regimental activities is the 2IC, Major Matt Finnerty, phone 07 4771 7322 or matthew.finnerty@defence.gov.au This old boy’s association has nothing formally organised but I expect there will be many who will attend the various functions being organised by either 107 Bty or the Regiment. If you plan on going up to Townsville, stay in touch with me and I will keep you posted on events happening. The CO of 4 th Field Regiment this year is LTCOL Charles Weller and he has via last years CO, LTCOL Combes, extended an invitation to all past gunners of the Regiment to attend. He has also asked if anyone has any memorabilia significant to the Regiment that they would like to donate to their historical collection, it would be greatly appreciated.
