4 Field Regiment (SVN) 'Old Boys' Newsletter - February 2011 Edition
I can be contacted via this means or the phone number below. (M: 0411 243 970). Regards Ramon Lewis From Hilton Lenard. G'day fellow Gunners, Enclosed for your information is our latest RAM Ramblings, published late August. Following our feature on Morrie Stanley, the Kiwi FO with Delta Company 6RAR at Long Tan, it is with sadness that I advise that Morrie passed away at home in NZ last week after a long battle with cancer. Regards Hilton Lenard, Secretary, 107 Fd Bty Assn.. www.107fdbty.com (PS Contact Hilton for a copy of their newsletter), From PJ Smith: The Balloonist. A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted: 'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am.' The man below replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.' 'You must be an Engineer,' said the balloonist. 'I am,' replied the man, 'how did you know?' 'Well,' answered the balloonist, 'everything you have told me is probably technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip by your talk.' The man below responded, 'You must be in Management.' 'I am,' replied the balloonist, 'but how did you know?' 'Well,' said the man, 'you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my bloody fault.' From Alan Hutchinson back in September. Hello Peter, Thanks for the mail but I will miss the Vet on 9 as we are in Penang for a few days enroute to Germany and beyond. Will be home mid October. Arrived Penang a couple of days ago and booked into the Park Royal at Batu Ferringhi. I recalled some 37 years ago when Bill Foxall brought a contingent of 106 Bty to the area just up the coast a bit for watermanship training. There is a lighthouse atop of the point near the beach we camped on at that time. I look at that lighthouse now and find it hard to accept that we used to run up to it! I can't recall just how many steps there were to the top but it was done in good time back then. It would take mechanisation to get me to the top now. Funny how those hills get bigger and higher with (our) age. Aint it? Hope this finds you well and regards to all. Allan Hutch GUNNERS GALLERY (From Alan Johnston) I’m back. Had a couple of interruptions this end and have done little with the site for the past 5 or so months. However all was not lost as Colin Montfort came onboard and we opened up a new section on the site—GUNNERS GALLERY. The first edition is now available, so take a look I’m sure you will find something of interest. The edition was a trial run but it still has contributions from Colin Montfort, Jon Pranevicius, Ric Lddelow, Michael Berriman, Ken Prevost, Kerry Taheny and Rob van Wageningen . While this edition only includes input from the blokes we hope future editions will also include contributions from the partners, kids or grand kids of those who served with 106 Battery . What to include is up to you. It may be a short story covering an aspect of your time in Vietnam, or a memorable event in your life post Vietnam. You may wish to show the rest of us that you also have a creative side. Have you written the odd poem or song, taken up a paint brush, tackled pottery, ceramics, sculpture, woodturning or photography etc? If that’s not your caper perhaps constructing your own car at home or restoring an old classic to look like new is and you may wish to share your passion with the rest of us. Whatever it is I hope you, your partner, kids or grand kids will take the time to send off an email to Colin( cemontfort@yahoo.com.au ) and then become regular contributors to the GUNNERS GALLERY. To date the focus of my site has been to produce a pictorial record of our tour and gatherings post Vietnam that I hope some of you may pass on to future generations of your family. But we are much more than our past. We hope GUNNERS GALLERY will add new life to the site as we share not only our past but events or interests that form part of our life post Vietnam.
