4 TH FIELD REGIMENT (SVN) ASSOCIATION AKA 4TH FIELD REGT OLD BOYS NEWSLETTER NO 21 – FEBRUARY 2011 Correspondence to: All subs to: Peter Bruce Gabby Hayes 7 River Oaks Drive 36 Ravel Street Kendall NSW 2439 Burpengary Qld 4505 Email: pjbruce8@bigpond.net.au Email: gabbyhayes@ozemail.com.au Tele: 02 6559 4413 Mobile: 0419 349 317 (subs are $5.00 per year or $106.00 for Life Membership (or 107.00or 108.00) G’day everyone, Happy New year to one and all. I trust you all had a wonderful festive season and are fully enthused to tackle 2011. I haven’t heard of any of our members who were affected by the floods throughout the eastern states, but if you know of anyone who might be doing it a bit tough – for whatever reason – please let us know. As you may have noticed, Susie and I have moved! Finally sold the place at Buffalo River (near Myrtleford in NE Victoria) and have settled here at Kendall in NSW. For those who don’t know the place, it’s about half an hour south of Port Macquarie and inland about 20 minutes from Laurieton and North Haven. The old Pacific Highway used to pass through Kew which is the turn off to Kendall. The little servo at Kew has some interesting stubby holders with the emblem ‘Far Kew’ and ‘Far Kew 2’on them. Interesting concept and a clever marketing ploy. We found ourselves a couple of acres just out of town – not big enough to run sheep but big enough to play cricket with the grand kids and keep me busy with the mowing. Plenty of bush walking nearby and so much tall timber to see. Syd Farrow lives in nearby Dunbogan and I caught up with him recently at the Laurieton RSL Sub Branch meeting. I transferred up to Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy Club to continue my involvement with Legacy and attended my first meeting/dinner in Port recently. Port Legacy is having similar issues as so many like organisations with increasing numbers of recipients in this case widows, and an ever decreasing Membership base – in this case Legatees. If you have a bit of time on your hands and are thinking of doing some community work, why not consider joining your local Legacy Club, Group or Branch. Further info is available from www.legacy.com.au. I will be joining the Brisbane crowd for ANZAC Day this year as quite a few others are doing from what I hear. Nothing formal has been organised but we can all get together somewhere, sometime I’m sure. It’s the 40 th anniversary of the Regiment’s return from SVN in March 1971. Cause for some form of celebration I’m sure. I’ve had a little bit of feedback from the last newsletter. I also get sent numerous jokes and articles. If you want to be on the forward list of this stuff, let me know and I’ll send you bits and pieces. By the way, I take no responsibility for any of the comment in any of the following, however any typo mistakes I’ll have to wear.
