4 Field Regiment (SVN) 'Old Boys' Newsletter - November 2015 Edition
4 TH FIELD REGIMENT (SVN) ASSOCIATION AKA 4TH FIELD REGT OLD BOYS NEWSLETTER NO 27 – NOVEMBER 2015 All Correspondence to Peter Bruce, PO Box 293, Lake Cathie NSW 2445 or pjbruce8@bigpond.net.au G’day everyone, I had headed this newsletter ‘November’ but rapidly running out of days to get it finished. Thanks to all those who have sent in bits and pieces. I have not included everything sent in as I didn’t want to seem too political but the decision lies with you the reader. If you want me to include everything (within reason) just let me know. I am sure most would guess what many articles are about. On a personal note, I have stood down as President of our Legacy Club and handed over to the next in line. Here in Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy we still look after over 600 widows and the number of “families of veterans who have given their health” is on the increase. We are sure there will be a role for Legacy for many years to come. Susie and I went down to the Australian Open Golf at the Australian Course last Thursday. What a day to play or even walk around a golf course. Reminded me of a Legacy golf day years ago at Huntingdale where we played in 40 degrees with hot dry winds. Should have stayed in the clubhouse! I hope you find some of the articles and comments below of interest and again, all contributions are greatly appreciated. Best wishes Peter Bruce ANZAC Day 2016 in Melbourne There has been enough interest in commemorating ANZAC Day in Melbourne next year (2016). PJ Smith is looking at a couple of places where we can all meet. We decided not to get too involved in organising special events etc as there was such a variety of interest in the activities offered. We plan on meeting for lunch on the Sunday which will give everyone the chance of an early evening to prepare for the day ahead. Don’t forget, ANZAC Day is on the Monday. The ANZAC Dawn Service is on at the Shrine starting with a minutes silence at 4.30am and the Dawn Service at 6.00am. The preamble starts about 5.40am and is worth being close to if you can. Try to get there as early as you can because crowds are massive. ANZAC Day March: Full details of our meeting place, and march details will be supplied later once published by march organisers. The march concludes near the shrine. At the conclusion of the march, a service will be held at the Shrine. Our place of choice will also be advised later, but may be a little way from the Shrine, so a tram trip may be necessary. What we now need is try and pin down numbers attending both the lunch on Sunday and the post march gathering on ANZAC Day. If you are attending will you
