4 Field Regiment (SVN) 'Old Boys' Newsletter - November 2016 Edition

From Brian Swift in October Thanks for info re George's passing. (The late George Godfrey). I was shattered to read it. Took George out for lunch just before ANZAC Day and he wasn't the best then but no indication of this. In fact he seemed quite sad and very lonely and was having trouble coping with going out in public. But underneath there was the George I first met in 1967 and crossed paths with a lot since, including our time in SVN. As all will say, he was a great bloke and as a much younger soldier I looked up to him and learned a lot from him. Most of all was as an example of a loyal and available friend. Didn't see you often of late old mate but will treasure the memories and remain grateful that we were friends. UBIQUE and farewell. Rest as you deserve. Love Swifty. P.S. Would appreciate any info re funeral From Kim McGrath, President of the Australian Artillery Association SPONSORSHIP OF THE 44TH PLATOON, 1ST RECRUIT TRAINING BATTALION KAPOOKA Gentlemen, The Australian Artillery Association has been invited to sponsor a Platoon at the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Kapooka. The Platoon in question is the recently raised platoon No 44. The Officer Commanding the 44th Platoon has requested that we adorn the corridor of the living in lines with photographs of Artillery current and past. We therefore aim to provide a framed picture of the following:  Field Artillery – current photo of one of the Regiments in action in the field  Field Artillery – historic photo of Vietnam or WW11 era  Air Defence – current photo of 16 Air Land Regiment in action in the field  Air Defence – historic photo WW1 or WW2 period  Locating Artillery – current photo of 20 Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment in action in the field  Locating Artillery – historic photo of Vietnam or WW11 era  School of Artillery – current photo of the School of Artillery  Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery Memorial, Canberra Each of the above photos would need to be of a resolution suitable for enlargement and all would be framed alike to provide a sense of uniformity within the corridor. With regards the current photographs mentioned above we will approach each of the Regiments to provide the photograph they believe best represents their respective Regiment in today’s environment. Over time, in addition to the above we would also like to have made up for them the following items:  1 vinyl banner of the same size that hung from the rafters of the Event Centre during the 2014 National Gunner Dinner which represented each of the Associations in attendance at the dinner  1 pull up banner size 200 cm x 80 cm  1 flag banner again similar (but smaller) than those that were placed around the dining room at the Event Centre during the 2014 National Gunner Dinner that represented each of the Regiments Therefore, we invite you to join with us to achieve this worthwhile project. In doing so we would be at the very beginning of service life for Other Ranks providing them with a glimpse of what life is like
