Regards Ian. From Ron Hall. Pete, the simplest way to monitor delivery and receipt of a mail is to go into options and tick the Request a delivery receipt and tick the Read receipt. So you will get a response from those who allow the read receipt to go thru. I will Tick this response and you can see what they see. I will forward to you what I see later. Have a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year. Regards Ron Ed. Thanks Ron. I appreciate your response however I am aware that some (including me) get muffed with ‘have to respond’ emails. I figure that people will let me know if they don’t want to receive them or they miss out on the updates. No problems. Pete. From David Adams (Eldest son of the late Ken Adams) Peter. What a lovely surprise to hear that you knew Ken pretty well. He married Joyce (an English girl) who used to work at the RSL in TVL. We really liked her, a softly spoken person. She was a little older than Ken and told us of her childhood memories of London being bombed during the blitz. They moved from TVL to Bargara (north of Bundy). Joyce died about a year before Ken in 2005. She always looked after him hand and foot. She was a non-drinker....so what a combination!!! He was then put into a carers home. By then he was on oxygen as emphysema had taken a firm hold. He only weighed 39 kg on passing. Never could give up the ciggies - even then. We visited him many times in Bargara before he died. He loved talking to our 3 children who also thought the world of him and visited him also. He was a soldier through and through. I learnt a lot from him, particularly his disciplines, loyalty and of course, on occasions, his abhorrence to authority & the bull dust. You made our day Peter Thank you very much for trying to dig something up on 'old soldier'. This is very much appreciated. Ed. I didn’t receive much info on Kenny Adams and his obituary awaits some worthwhile input. I did receive this note below. Pete. From Peter (PJ) Smith. I had the opportunity to travel, over the last two weeks, to visit Hong Kong and then on to London. In Hong Kong my main task was to negotiate the purchase, and approve the supply, of the red poppies used for commemoration and fundraising for RSL Victoria. I undertake that trip every two years. The supplier is a Hong Kong company specialising in artificial flowers and with whom we have been doing business for 30 years. They are a trusted supplier. The negotiations are always interesting. Aside from price we go through design, fabric, construction, packaging, quantities, payment schedules and shipping terms. The language barrier, although not massive, makes face to face negotiation the only viable alternative. Although the supplier is in Hong Kong, the poppies are made in a factory in Zhong Shan, a city in Guangdong Province in mainland China. Following the Hong Kong negotiation, I always visit the factory in China to satisfy myself that it is of a satisfactory standard. The manufacturer is historically linked to the Hong Kong company and so we have had a long partnership with that entity too.
