4 Field Regiment (SVN) 'Old Boys' Newsletter - February 2019 Edition

BATTERY." and will be published ASAP after the 106 Field Battery Reunion at Coolangatta May 1-6th 2019. Ben Burrow Editor of the TURTLE TIMES. From Ken Morrison Hi old boys, Ken Morrison here. Another Vet and I are heading for Canberra this Anzac Day, looking forward to catching up with anyone from 1970 tour that may be up there too. Let us know if anyone will be marching too. (Ed. Let me know if you want to get in touch with Ken.) From Ian Schultz Hi Peter. All is well our end, thanks. I believe a few fellows are meeting in Brisbane, Ray (Barber) is coming over from WA and I have been Talking to Bob Brumm and he has indicated he would march with us this year. Geoff Dunkley also mentioned earlier on he would come up to Brisbane although I haven't heard from him for a while. Of course, Mick (Long) would be there also. I don't know of anyone else. Hope this has been of some help. Cheers. Ian Schulz. (Ed. I will try and track down the old boy’s banner in Brisbane and perhaps you could all march behind it – if I can arrange through RSL). From Lance Grimstone Pete, Sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, daughter Sarah and grandsons Harry and Oscar will be here all April. So we’ll do the march thing in Brissie. However, I am interested to know if plans are afoot for a reunion on ANZAC Day in 2020 (50 th anniversary of start of our tour). Last year, Gary Sharpe and I briefly discussed Tassie as a cheap, scenic and cool alternative for this year but perhaps it could be adopted for 2020 instead? Any thoughts? Cheers, Lance. PS might be down Bonny Hills way in early February. Keep you posted. From Peter Dobbs Pete. Thanks for the email and the opportunity to offer comment. Laurieton is our preferred choice as it offers a country feel and is less populated and far less busy. We often stop over on the way so time on the road is not an issue for us. Ballina due to its proximity to the great SE may very well bring out others however, we’ll go with the flow. Regards, Peter From David Anderson Hi Peter. Thanks for your email and my apologies for not getting back earlier. Firstly, Lennox Head doesn’t have an RSL Sub-Branch. The nearest ones to Lennox are: Lismore, Alstonville, Byron Bay and Ballina. As a result of the nonsense that went on with the NSW RSL last year (or was it the year before?), I cancelled my RSL membership, although I plan to sign up again once they’ve sorted all the issues. So, I really don’t have much knowledge of any of the local RSL Sub Branches. Whilst commemorating an ANZAC Day in the Northern Rivers might be a good idea, I can’t vouch for any of them - although I suspect Ballina may do it better than most. And Ballina would offer multiple accommodation options. If you’d like me to investigate, I’d be happy do so - just let me know. David
