From Tom Beynon via phone call on 7 April Tom tells me he is still in training and looking to get down to 64kg to compete for a world record deadlift for his age (80). Walks 12 k in the morning and goes for a bike ride in the pm. Also mentioned he has seen Jimmy Martin several times in the Townsville RSL Club. He does not think that Jimmy is travelling too well. Has anyone else got or have been in touch with Jimmy? Me thinks he might be needing a friend. Still no word about or from Graeme Leonard in Townsville. He has gone to ground with no contact for months. Syd Farrow – Guess who had a birthday recently! Bo Plenty tells me that the little house in centre of this photo was CIA headquarters in Saigon. I certainly can’t dispute the fact! Never got an invite myself! John (Bo) also tells us: I was always led to believe that the guns in defence of Singapore were all pointing seaward well not completely true. Many of us will remember the island of Blakang Mahti now known as Sentosa Island. I recently found out that the guns at Fort Siloso on Blakang Mahti Island did in fact turn around and fire on the Japanese as they approached Johore Bahru. The fort is magnificently restored and WELL WORTH A VISIT if you ever go there. For what it’s worth. JP
