As I think back to the end of the affair, I was surprised by the number of visitors who had suddenly appeared on the gun position. It was then simply a case of packing up and heading back to Terendak Garrison. This was not a major engagement and the Battery wen on to be deployed in Sarawak, but it was indeed the first time the Battery had fired in anger and at last it gave us some standing with the other Batteries of the Regiment. Photo 1 . 102 Battery deployed along the canal. GNR John Stephens in the front right of the photo late to bae awarded a Military Medal at FSB Coral. On the left, taking off his shirt is GNR John (Bo) Plenty. In the centre facing the camera is GNR Salty Klass from the Q Store. Photo 2 . The Command Post at Merlimau. From the left; Sig BDR Mick Wilson, GPO LT KR Hall, TARA BDR Alby Sheridan, rear BDR Dick Creek and GNR Meredith. A pretty standard CP for those days.
