4 Field Regiment (SVN) 'Old Boys' Newsletter - December 2021 Edition
sighted so my emails are done voice to text and I read them by text to voice. Must be too much jerking the gherkin when I was younger. Seriously is genetic macular dystrophy and cannot be cured, not in my lifetime anyway. Say hello to all the other old boys and let them know I'm still kicking, like a mule! Terry Hills (jungles). Gary Roach sent me some photos of the US Army’s M109s being used as local defence and convoy protection with Australians during his time in Vietnam with 4 Field Regiment on the first tour, 1967/68. Apparently, some Australians helped man the M109s. If anyone has any stories about working with the yanks especially with these M109s, perhaps let me know and we can share with all the old boys. Bits and Pieces I spoke to Geoff Jebb back on 11 October. He was in fine spirits but has had his share of medical issues. He sends his regards to all Old Boys. Barny and Robyn Barnard have moved from Bright to the big smoke of Wangaratta. Mo Armstrong has but us back in touch with Geoff Dunkley – Thanks Mo. Geoff and wife Chris are living at Hastings in Victoria. George Allingame is back on the mailing list with his new email address. Great to hear from George. I caught up with an old 105 Battery Malaya digger recently. John Grainger was with the Battery in Malaya. If anyone remembers him, I know he would love to hear from you. Syd Farrow remains active with our Laurieton RSL Sub-branch. Syd is one of our Trustees and also one of our Memorabilia Officers. Garry Jones has been out bush again, seeing if he can handle sleeping in a tent and in a swag. After two nights he packed up and moved into the local pub. Onya Garfie. Jonesy mentioned Herbie Zella and wondered if anyone had heard from him lately? I received advice recently of the death of Geoff Jebb’s wife Flo. She too had her medical issues as Geoff had explained in our earlier conversation. It is with pleasure that we provide this quotation for your deliberation.
