Chris Jobson provided the details below of the new 4th Regiment Memorial near RHQ at Lavarack Barracks. Chris has put out a publication titles “Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery Memorials” and has a photo and description of all Unit Memorials in Australia. 4 th REGIMENt MEMORIAL The 4 th Regiment Memorial is situated on the front edge of the Regiment’s parade ground, within Townsville’s Lavarack Barracks, and it consists of a four-walled column standing on a black granite plinth, which is positioned on a tiled base. In each corner of the base there is an embedded ‘up-side down’ 105mm cartridge case. The column’s four walls list over 200 names, in gold lettering, of those who died serving in The Great War, in the AIF’s 4 th Australian Field Regiment, in the Second World War, in the 2/4 th Field Regiment, and in the South Vietnam War and the Afghanistan War, in 4 th Field Regiment. The Memorial is topped with the Regiment’s blue and red colour patch, and the Regiment’s number, in Roman numerals, is positioned on the front of the plinth. Well Old Boys, that’s it for this year. All the very best for the Festive Season to one and all. May 2022 be all you wish for. Next edition due out in March which gives you plenty of time to prepare a note or two to include. Stay safe Old Boys and we’ll see you in the new year. Peter
