4 Field Regiment (SVN) 'Old Boys' Newsletter - June 2021 Edition

Large Technology Objects. Armoured fighting vehicles will be displayed in the RAAC enclosed exhibition space. From Paddy Durnford in Townsville The first of a fleet of Leonardo AW 139 chopper arrived at the 5th Aviation Regiment based at Garbutt Townsville late last month. In a $23m two year deal the ADF will hire these helicopters to ensure Townsville Troops maintain operational capability. This chopper cost less than the MRH90 to fly; It can be flown by one pilot and is capably of carrying 15 troops. These choppers will be leased to enable on line choppers to be used for more combat related duties. From Kevin O’Brien Kevin leading the march for the Runaway Bay RSL Sub-branch. (He’s the one on the left in case you couldn’t pick him!) Also from Kevin O’Brien Hi Peter. A few weeks back we had a small 107 Field Battery catch up at Currumbin SLSC arranged by Dave Boorman (who is still living in Canberra but was escaping COVID in Queensland). Barry Artup, Ken Rosenlund and I joined in to spin some yarns about the old footy days. We really should have beaten University in that 1969 Grand Final!! Everyone is still very fit and well! Actually they are fitter than me!! The boys had also caught up with Darryl Madge - who is working for the Titans. I was unaware that Mick Simms had died back in 1985 and is buried at Tweed Heads. Mick was our team captain in that final game in Townsville and was then selected for North Queensland against Fiji. He ended up in the HQ Battery (spare ) FO Party with Peter Dobbs, Alex Pavlovich and myself and one other HQ Battery signaller whose name I have forgotten
