G’day Old Boys. Sincere thanks to all those who wrote or contacted me over the last couple of months. I am sure the articles and correspondence below will be of interest to all. It is hard to know what everyone would like to hear about in our newsletters so articles from you are most welcome. I would really encourage you to let us all know what you are up to these days and of course, any memories or fond recollections of your time in SVN. I am on the mailing list for a couple of unit and sub-unit newsletters and a common theme with them is news from their members. The current 101 Battery Association has a good collection of firsthand information on their members. This is particularly useful when a member dies and enables them to write a suitable obituary for the member. In the past, we were able to obtain copies of their Record of Service, but this is now restricted to immediate family members or the RSL Sub-branch conducting a funeral service. David Troedel (RIP) from 101 Battery Malaya did an amazing job collating information and photos of the unit and all members from their time in Malaya. His work is a real collector’s item, and a copy is held by the Cutler Research Centre. I also have a copy which has been extremely helpful at times. Our treasurer, Gabby Hayes served with 101 Bty in Malaya. Anyone know of David Hanlon? Email is bouncing. Keith Hall had a hip replacement back in June which was successful, but a few other complications saw him have an extended stay in hospital. Update as at 27 August – Keith is home now but has some ongoing health issues from the pneumonia he has had. We all send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. From Kevin Murphy via email on 17 June 2025 A couple of times when meeting up with other Old Boys, they have said, I remember you, you ran the boozer: Actually, I did a bit more than that: Time in country is as follow: Day two Mick Sullivan and myself found ourselves with a platoon from 6 RAR being choppered into the jungle for our first operation. We had two contacts and called in one fire mission. This was 6 RARs last operation and Mick and I were then sent over to W Coy were we had several ops. One, we were with a platoon section (I think 12 of us) in an
