AS9 Huntsman 155mm Self Propelled Howitzer Several news feeds have advised that the first of the RAA’s new SPs has arrived in Australia from South Korea. Known in South Korea as the K9, it is now used, or on order with nine countries including Egypt, Estonia, Finland, India, Norway, Poland, Romania and Turkey. Vietnam is reported to become the 10 th country to purchase the K9 Howitzers with a possible order of 120 pieces. Australia has labelled their K9A1 version as the AS9 Huntsman and will eventually be taken on by 4 th Regiment with 106 Battery reportedly the first battery to receive the new equipment. The AS9’s come with a AS10 tracked ammunition vehicle which can carry around 100 155mm rounds and can be automatically transferred to the AS9 which carries around 48 rounds. Ranges with standard ammunition is about 30 kilometres with ranges out to 60ks with special ammunition. Australia is expected to purchase 30 AS9’s with production at the Geelong plant of Hanwha Defence Australia. Production in Australia may also be used to produce the K9 for other countries under agreements with South Korea.
