103rd Field Battery - Website

103rd Field Battery Website.   The 103rd Field Battery website was created and maintained by Mr John Redman and was principally dedicated to the Battery's service in South Vietnam.  John served in the Battery.   The website existed from ??? to ??? and was ultimately closed due to not only age but also the expense of running a website became prohibitive.   The Australian Artillery Association are the custodian of the 103rd Field Battery website and as such requests for copies of any material contained therein should be made to the Australian Artillery Association Inc using the 'Question / Feedback' facility within the above menu.

No action should be taken based on any information in relation to upcoming events, donations, contact us, etc throughout the 103rd Field Battery website as it is no longer a functioning website and is being retained purley as Archived History.   The 103rd Field Battery website ceased to be published on the World Wide Web (www) in 2022.

Queen's Banner Parade.   On the 5th November 2022, personnel from the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery were joined by VIP  including Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley, AC, DSC (Retd), Chief of Army Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, AO, DSC for the presentation and consecration of the Queen’s Banner (1871-2021) to the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery at Victoria Barracks, Sydney.  Those Regiments represented were: 1 Regiment, 4 Regiment, 8/12 Regiment, 9 Regiment, 16 Regiment and 20 Regiment.

The Banner Parade marked the renewal of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Queen’s Banner (1871-1971) to the Queen’s Banner (1871-2021). Then head of regiment Brigadier Simon Roach wrote to Queen Elizabeth in 2019 to request that Her Majesty consider a replacement for the Queen’s Banner (1871-1971) because of its poor condition, which the Queen granted.

The parade was originally scheduled for the 6th of November 2021 as the final event marking the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the permanent Australian artillery but was postponed because of COVID-19 restrictions.

106 Field (Trials) Battery.   106 Field (Trials) Battery was established in 1975 to trial the replacement medium gun for the then 5.5 inch Howitzer.  The guns trialed were the FH70 (British), XM198 (American) and the XM204 (Italian) howitzers.  In addition to trialing the guns the Battery was also charged with trialing a replacement Gun Tractor to tow the replacement gun.  The Gun Tractors trialed were the Americal MACK, German MANN and the Italian FIAT.   The trials concluded in 1978 and the replacemt Medium Gun and Gun Tractor selected were: the Americal XM198 and the Americal MACK truck.

So and So has put together a photo album containing photographs and documents of his time in the Battery (1976 to 1977).   The Photo Album is available for viewing in Book Flip format and may be downloaded from the Book Flip viewer.
