ARTILLERY CALENDAR
PROPOSAL
ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ARTILLERY
NATIONAL MEMORIAL PROJECT
2027
PERSONAL PHOTO ALBUM

Dear Fellow Gunners,

A few notable dates in Australian Artillery history occur in September each year.

More broadly, the idea of an Australian Artillery Calendar for serving and retired Gunners has been on agendas for decades. Is its time right?

Attached is a June 2026, April 2026 and March 2026 example that simply draws on dates summarised in appendices in the RAAHC publication Action! Action! Action! A Short History of the Employment of Australian Artillery 1871-2021 (the appendices include about 80 notable dates).

This calendar is constructed based on a ‘by diary day’ method for the month of September and emphasises the anniversary in years (e.g. School of Artillery'.

  • There are many other dates of importance (battles, operational deployment, origins, introduction of a new operational capability etc.) that can be added over time.
  • Suggestions will be welcome as long as they are supported by evidence.
  • The raising dates of many artillery units on the current orbat were not included in the succinct Action! Action! Action!
  • The challenge is to build sufficient interest to grow the ‘Calendar’ over several years.

It is planned to issue a basic Calendar for twelve months and gauge reactions. If feedback and contributions are sufficiently positive we will attempt to assemble a few volunteer members to manage the ‘Calendar’.

If you would like to volunteer to join the potential ‘Calendar Team’ please email me.

The Royal Australian Artillery National Memorial extension project has made significant progress in its fundraising efforts. We now have $335,000 in the bank, just over half the estimated required total of $600,000. We have been greatly encouraged by the support of the Gunner community and some extraordinary generosity from several private and corporate benefactors. But we are not there yet and we would very much welcome and appreciate any further tax deductible donations you might be able to make. So, please show your support and make a donation today
