NX762 Gunner Stanley Douglas Green's Military Medal citation reads as follows:
STANLEY DOUGLAS GREEN NX762 Gnr MM
CITATION PERIOD 1.4.45 TO 30.9.45
1. "FOR COURAGE, COOLNESS AND DEVOTION TO DUTY UNDER FIRE IN THE CAPE WOM-WEWAK OPERATION NEW GUINEA MAY/JUNE 1945".
2. During the attacks on the "620"and "710"features, Gnr Green an OP Signaller responsible, with L/Bdr, CLEAVES for the line communication to the FOO. Together they succeeded in taking the line over the most difficult mountainous and jungle country to within 60 yards of the OP, when they came under considerable enemy small arms fire. In the attempt to cross the area L/Bdr CLEAVES was wounded. Gnr GREEN with complete disregard for his own safety, applied first aid and, moving L/Bdr CLEAVES to cover, continued single handed with the task and succeeded in taking the line through to the OP. Still under fire he returned and brought forward the phone, established communications and carried on in the dual capacity as signaller and OP Officer's assistant through great stress and strain in a most efficient manner, thus enabling supporting fire to be maintained during the most critical periods of the attack.
3. On another occasion in the same operations Gnr GREEN displayed remarkable coolness and with courage went to the aid of a seriously wounded comrade and remained with him rendering first aid regardless of the heavy fire on the position.
4. The above incidents are typical of Gnr GREEN who, as an original member of the Regt has served with it in action in LIBYA, BUNA-SANANANDA and WEWAK. He always performs his duty efficiently and courageously. His constant devotion to duty and coolness has been a splendid example to all.
