1st Field Regiment fired its last rounds from the M2A2 Howitzers, on 24 August 1990 at Shoalwater Bay Training Area.

The Regiment fired: “At my Command - Regiment Right - One round fire for Effect”

The Regiment consisted of 18 Guns:

101 Field Battery

104 Field Battery (GRes), and

105 Field Battery

 
 
The Regiment took delivery of the L118/119 Hamel Light Gun, soon thereafter.  Conversion Courses soon followed after Numbers Ones, and key personnel first attended courses at the School Of Artillery North Head Manly.
 
The Regiment first paraded the Hamel Guns on Sunday, 9th December, 1990

This Parade also marked the departure of The Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major.

It was both an honour, and a privilege to have served the Regiment as the 19th Regimental Sergeant Major of 1st Field Regiment RAA during 1989 to 1990.
